PRESS STATEMENT BY THE BUHARI GLOBAL SUPPORT GROUP
Gentlemen of the Press,
You are very much welcome to our briefing. We are a support group of self-funded professionals committed not only to the emergence of General Mohammadu Buhari as the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but also to promoting and sustaining in public service those very virtues he represents. Now that we have attained the first objective, we rededicate to achieving the major goal of building a nation we can all be proud of. The President-Elect may be the arrowhead but we believe the citizens should take ownership of the crusade for national rebirth.
We appreciate the spirit of sportsmanship exhibited by President Goodluck Jonathan in conceding defeat and emphasize that this example provides a veritable platform for the healing of political wounds and the building of a new stronger nation founded on accommodation, tolerance and unity. We must not allow this momentous occasion slide by as it provides a window of opportunity to consolidate national integration by constituting a government of technocrats and proven administrators beyond the narrow compass of partisan considerations. Experience, credibility and creativity must be the minimum qualifications for public service as Nigerians cannot wait to harvest from the Change the incoming government symbolizes and we must harness and utilize the talents we have in abundance notwithstanding the age, tribe or religion.
As a group that believe in the President-Elect and thus exerted ourselves in promoting his brand during electioneering, we boldly affirm that we are major stakeholders in the success of the incoming government and shall spare no effort to see Nigeria move to the next level. We hereby call on all Nigerians to forge a solidarity of common interest so that together we may continue to strive for a nation bound in love and destined for greatness.
We cannot fail to appreciate Nigerians for the sacrifice and commitment to a peaceful election. We salute our law enforcement agencies for largely acquitting themselves. We must also appreciate the doggedness of our party titans like Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Odigie Oyegun, Ogbonnaya Onu, Rotimi Amaechi, Rochas Okorocha, Adams Oshiomhole, Nda Isaiah and so many others by whose perseverance and faith the victory was achieved. It is appropriate to remind all that winning an election is the easier part of the job; delivering on the mandate is the crux of participatory democracy.
We shall continue to monitor developments with a view to making quality contributions to nation building as may be expected of us, and we enjoin men and women of goodwill to join us in this onerous task of moving our country forward. Together we shall prevail.
Thank you all for coming.
