Nigerian arrested in Johannesburg for drug dealing
In a sting operation by the HAWKS, a special police unit of the South African Police Service (SAPS) tasked with investigating and uncovering priority crimes on Thursday morning arrested a Nigerian in Johannesburg when an undercover cop posed as a courier. The arrest was made when 2kg of cocaine packaged in the lining of a laptop bag for onward delivery to the tourist island of Mauritius was handed over to an unsuspected undercover agent.
The police said they received a tip off when the suspect arranged a courier to move the drugs to Mauritius, hence the need to set up a sting operation. The acting head of the directorate for priority crime investigation Major General Mthandazo Ntlemeza praised his officers, he said “One of our mandate is to prevent crime from happening and in this success our members’ deserves a pat in the back for thoroughly investigating a tip-off from an informer and subsequently arresting the drug dealer”.
The 37 old suspect will be arraigned for dealing in drugs at the Jeppe magistrate court in Johannesburg on Friday.
