Ethiopia Orthodox Church joins other orthodox Christians in Egypt, Greece and the former soviet republics of Russia to celebrate Christmas. This celebration comes two weeks after the gregorian Christmas which was celebrated on the 25th of December. Orthodox Christians follow the Julian calendar and Christmas comes on the 7th of January.
According to accounts, it is assumed that Jesus Christ was born after the sunset and before the break of a new a dawn because the three wise men who brought gifts for the new born followed the moon and stars to his birth place of Bethlehem.
