Amidst defections and cross carpeting of Nigerian lawmakers yesterday, the Governor of Benue state in north central of Nigeria has announced his defection from the ruling All Progressive Congress to the opposition People’s Democratic Party. Earlier today, angry youths protested near the government house in Markurdi, residence of the governor, apparently against his reconciliatory moves as he was about leaving for the nations capital in Abuja for a meeting with the leaders of the ruling party.
Governor Ortom is the first governor in Africa’s largest economy to decamp from the ruling party to the opposition as national elections looms in 2019.
