6-weeks old baby test positive for Covid-19 in Nigeria amid travel restrictions
The Minister of Health confirmed 5 new cases of Corona Virus of which 3 arrived from the United States and 2 arrived from the United Kingdom bringing the total number of COVID-19 in Nigeria to 8. The 2 travellers from the United Kingdom are Nigerians and 2 out of the 3 travellers from the United States a mother and a 6-weeks old baby. The Third traveller is a foreign national who came through the land border.
The government of Nigeria through the presidential task force on COVID-19 announced the suspension of Visa on Arrivals for travellers from United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Norway, Netherlands, Switzerland, Iran, South Korea, and Japan. These countries are known to have over 1000 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 epidemic.
All travellers from these countries will face restricted entry into the country while those already airborne before this announcement will be under supervised self-isolation monitored by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control and the Port Health Services.
The Federal Ministry of Health through the Nigeria Center for Disease Control will continue to provide adequate information and protect the health of all Nigerians. The public is refrained from spreading false information while encouraging everyone to practice proper handwashing and respiratory hygiene.
