Nigeria records first death from Covid-19

NCDC confirms 5 new cases with the first death recorded in Nigeria. According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, a 67 year old male with underlying medical conditions who returned from the United Kingdom following a medical treatment died of  the novel Covid-19 after testing positive.

The current statistics in Nigeria stands at 35 confirmed cases with 32 active cases 2 recoveries and 1 death.

Rise in Corona virus cases in South Africa also reported by National Institute for Communicable Diseases. NICD confirms 128 new cases that tested positive for Covid-19 bringing a total number of positive cases in South Africa to 402.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will make an announcement this evening concerning government interventions going forward after declaring a National State of Disaster last week that led to the cancellation of public events, closure of schools, ban on foreign trips, restrictions on sale of alcohol and strict hygiene measures at shopping malls and retail outlets.
