Nigeria Begins Covid-19 related Evacuation as 265 nationals Arrive Lagos from Dubai

The evacuation of Nigerian nationals inĀ  the diaspora with the arrival of 265 persons from the United Arab Emirates who voluntarily requested to be removed from that country due to the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic.
An Emirate airline will depart Dubai and arrive at Lagos Murtala Mohammed Airport Wednesday 6th May at 1500 Hrs local time, a statement released by the Foreign Affairs ministry said.
The British High Commission in Nigeria is also facilitating the evacuation of about 300 Nigerians from the United Kingdom.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry also confirms that British Airways flight 9155 will depart London Heathrow on Friday the 8th of May for Lagos and arrive about 1300 Hrs local time on the same day.
Nigerians in the United States of America will be evacuated on Sunday 10th of May from New York to Abuja as plans are underway for Ethiopian Airline to airlift the evacuees, the statement added.

The evacuees will undergo a mandatory 14 days quarantine on arrival in a state-controlled environment in line with global practice. Nigeria Center for Disease Control, Ports Health Authority, Foreign Affairs Ministry, and the Office of the NSA will coordinate the entire process to ensure the safety and well-being of all Nigerians.

  1. Emirates airline carrying 265 Nigerians bound for Lagos made a detour back to Dubai after a pregnant woman gave birth onboard one hour into the flight. The flight is currently mid air and schedule to touchdown in Lagos at 7pm local time.
