The National Influenza Center laboratory at the National Public Health Laboratories of the Ministry of Health confirms this case of Covid-19 as the first in Kenya of a citizen who returned from the United States via the United Kingdom on the 5th of March and has tested positive to the Covid-19 virus.
The patient is said to be stable but under isolation as the government of Kenya continues to strengthen measures to ensure the further transmission of Covid-19. The tracer team has been activated to ensure that all those she came in contact with are identified and isolated.
The Kenyan government has suspended all public gatherings, games, meetings and religious crusades. However, church services, schools and public transport remain open and service providers are advised to provide sanitizers to everyone at the point of entry. Also, all visitors to prisons have been suspended for the next 30 days.
The public is also advised not to spread false information using social media platforms as travel restrictions placed unless necessary while zero travel to Covid-19 hotspots.
